10th Nov. 2021: Creative Learning Environments, Professional Conference, Slovenia:
Vocational teacher, Janne Fløjstrup, Business College Vestfyn, and project manager Regina Lamscheck-Nielsen, Moeve, will present findings about the application of Augmented Reality (AR) for the support of learning processes in Vocational Education and Training (VET).
Augmented Reality is one of the currently emerging technologies and upcoming in many fields. As a highly competitive economy, the Danish trades have a strong and consistent focus on emerging technologies for continuously increasing effectiveness, improving quality and creating innovation. In the Danish dual VET system, the trades are crucial stakeholders and influence the educational programmes to a high degree. Nevertheless, the specific choices of digital technologies, their testings and implementation in the programmes are undertaken in the local VET colleges, which has led to the followoing questions.
A paper outlines the context and discusses the following research questions:
- When implementing emerging technologies: how to approach the pedagogical process in daily vocational teaching practice in vocational education?
- Why is the implementation of emerging technologies both a challenge and an opportunity in Danish vocational education, and what to consider in this process?
To meet the first research question, a case study was chosen to deliver data for in-depth considerations about pedagogical obstacles and opportunities. The case study took place from April to September 2021 in the framework of the Southern Danish innovation project “ARducation” (2019-2022) and complements its strong quantitative focus. The case study relates to the course “Augmented SWOT-analysis” at Business College Vestfyn has thus far been conducted with 2 iterations.
The second research question is considered with respect to insight from 3 Danish innovation projects for the implementation of emerging technologies. These projects were didactically connected via referring to the model ROBOdidactics. We looked at possible perspectives through ROBOdidactics.
